A great astronomical treasure
The tour to Roque de los Muchachos, the highest point on the island of La Palma at 2,426 meters (7,959 ft) above sea level, starts on Tuesdays with a transfer from designated pickup points to the Roque de los Muchachos Visitors Center. A visit to the Visitors Center is included after the observatory tour. From there, participants will begin an organized and guided caravan tour to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (ORM), one of the most important astronomical complexes in the world due to the exceptional quality of its sky. For approximately two hours, you’ll visit some of the scientific facilities, where experts will explain how the telescopes work and the importance of the research carried out there.
If you choose the Friday option, it will only include the observatory tour. This option does not include the transfer or the visit to the Roque de los Muchachos Visitors Center.
The Roque de los Muchachos Observatory is home to state-of-the-art telescopes operated by various international institutions, including the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC), the world’s largest optical-infrared telescope. Thanks to its privileged location and strict protection against light pollution, this site is key for studying the universe. After the guided tour, you’ll return to your original pickup point, completing a unique experience that combines science, nature, and spectacular views of the volcanic landscape and the Atlantic Ocean.
